MAKE YOUR NIGHTLY BATH A HEALING EXPERIENCE

No, you can't go splash under a waterfall in a tropical paradise. Well, you can, and you should, but you can't do it every night. Well, most of us can't. Taking off to a luxurious spa is something that you should do, but a nightly visit could get expensive.

Having a home spa is now an affordable luxury for some, but even when all you have is a plain old bath tub you can still make your nightly bath a healing experience. However, I mustn't make too much of the medicinal effects of a bath before I say something about the pure pleasure of it.

Aromatherapy

A bath is one of the great experiences in life and it should rank right up there with sex and fine food. In fact, it can be mixed with both, but the most spirit-enriching experience is when you use a bath to commune with yourself.

You can laugh inside yourself as the scented bubbles rise from the top of the tinted water. There can be dozens of fragrances that might stimulate your imagination and you can actually be in faraway places, inside your head, especially if you've equiped your bathroom with a music system. No music system in your bathroom? Shame on you.

You can get good ones made especially for your bathroom. Mine plays from my Ipod which I can program to play just the right songs: "Blue Gardenia" by Dinah Washington and then by Nat King Cole then I have some instrumental versions of different tempos mixed in. It's so relaxing. It's a sad song but it can make you happy: Love bloomed like a flower, Then the petals fell, blue gardenia.

Scents and Fragrances

I also have my IPod programmed to play Chinese music. The delicately plinking harp can be very peaceful and then the violins come in. The themes are very visual and depict natural things like the wind, water, sky, ocean, or trees. I like Cheng WuJia's "Moon Over the Mountain Pass", "Snow in Early Spring", and elegant "Swirling Snow Decorates the Evergreen". They afford the greatest peace because they take you away from human problems.

I just close my eyes and blow away the bubbles well enough so that when I open my eyes I can see the lotus blooms: Oh! You don't have lotus blooms? Let me stop teasing. Seriously, that are people who say that you can tell how much you love yourself by how much time you spend just enjoying being in your body, and how you treat your body.

There is so much wonderful stuff--body shampoos and body soaps with emollients and French lavender, sea algae, aloe vera and vitamins A and E. I even have some bubble bath with the scent of chocolate, giving the pleasure of chocolate without the calories.

You should see me at the fragrances counters at Nordstroms or Macy's. I like a crazy girl! I open all the bottles. There are designer fregrances for candles and scented in-bath and after-bath oils--blends of jasmine, vanilla, maplewood and tiare. Sandalwood, honeysuckle, rose petals, fresh peach, black current, strawberries of warm spices, amber and musk. For use in candles, potpourri candles are so nice, and the lighting must be perfect.

Time spent in pleasant experiences heal the spirit. But beyond just relaxing the body, resting the mind, and refreshing the spirit, and sometimes healing the body by healing the spirit, the right aroma can heal the body all by iteslf.
